WELCOME BACK after what I hope was an excellent summer for you and your family! For me, spending time at community events was a highlight. With this being our families first “normal” summer in the community it was awesome to see how many people volunteered to support the events and make them possible. I think my boys received enough candy from Shellsburg’s Big Day parade to last the entire year!
OVER THE SUMMER, our buildings and grounds crew were hard at work. We had a number of projects going on around the district. Some of the large projects included the removal of an underground storage tank at the transportation building, abating and installing new flooring, LED lighting upgrades, and paving projects. I hope that you take note of the new improvements. I would like to give a shout out to all our local contractors and businesses that supported and helped complete our summer projects!
SPEAKING OF IMPROVEMENTS, I hope you have been able to visit our revamped website. It is at the same web address of vscsd.org. The goal was to make it easier to navigate and provide information to people who may not be as familiar with the school district. We are always looking for ways to improve our communication and the website is one of those ways. We are also looking for great stories to share about our students, staff, and community on our website and social media. If you have a good story, photo or video, please share it with us. You may message us through email or social media.
ON AUGUST 12TH, we will welcome nine new teachers to the District for new teacher orientation. They will spend the day learning about the district and community. Starting August 16th all of our staff will be back participating in professional learning and collegial activities. We will have six new support staff team members and have several existing staff who are moving into new positions either within or outside of their schools. Our new colleagues bring with them a wide variety of educational and life experiences, which will enhance our already strong professional culture.
I WISH THE BEST for an enjoyable August and look forward to welcoming the children back to school the week of August 23rd. We are more than ready, eager, and excited to begin this excellent adventure!
