It is sad to know that our students will not be back in the buildings this year per Governor Reynold’s decision to close schools for the remainder of the 2019-20 year. We will be developing our “return to learn” plan for the 2020-21 school year. We will continue to provide updates! You can find our continuous learning plan by clicking here.

Update on School Closure: As many of you may already know, Governor Reynolds has ordered schools remain closed through April 30 as we continue to experience the spread of COVID-19.
Schools are not built to be empty and we know students learn better when provided direct instruction on a regular and routine basis by their teachers.
Many of us anticipated school closure to extend past April 10. The principals and teachers in each building are collaborating to determine how they can continue to support our students’ learning without in-class structure. The Iowa Department of Education is creating an application that schools can submit for approval to require students to participate in on-line learning. While we are not sure what the application will require, the teachers and administrators have been considering how we might implement instruction, assignments, assessment, feedback and other components of any program that would be offered on-line.
Tentatively, we are considering the “required” option for our high school students and 8th-grade algebra students as a means to meet graduation and other requirements. At this time, we would also anticipate online classes remaining “optional” for our pre-K through 8th-grade students as they have been since the initial closure.
Considerations for this decision include how to provide more technology hardware resources to younger students as well as how we might help mitigate issues of internet access.
We will share more detailed information early next week.
Free Grab & Go Meals: Please note, we will continue to provide meals to children throughout the closure. For details please follow this link: bit.ly/VS_FreeMeals

• Update (4/8/20, 1 pm) Meals will not be distributed on Friday, April 10th. Meals will be distributed on Thursday for Friday. Meals will resume on Monday, April 13th.
• Update (3/30/20, 2:15 pm) * PLEASE NOTE: Due to newly-released USDA guidance, caregivers may pick up meals for children at Grab & Go meal sites, effective immediately. USDA recognizes that in this public health emergency, continuing to require children to come to the meal site to pick up meals may not be practical and in keeping with the goal of providing meals while also taking appropriate safety measures.
