Whether you are new to Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School or returning for another year, we are beyond excited to have you with us! We are incredibly proud of the many opportunities we offer our students, and we encourage everyone to make the most of their time here by participating in the wide variety of academic and extracurricular experiences available.
At VSMS, we are committed to building strong partnerships with our families. This year, we are especially focused on working together to strengthen our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) systems. We are looking for guardians who are willing to provide us feedback on our PBIS systems. Through this partnership, we hope to create an even more supportive and inclusive school environment that encourages positive behavior and academic success. If you are willing to help us in these efforts, please reach out to alexa.francois@govikes.org so we can add you to the team!
We also want to emphasize the critical role that school attendance plays in student success. Regular attendance builds strong academic habits, increases engagement, and helps students stay connected with their peers and teachers. We understand that families sometimes face barriers to consistent attendance, and we are here to help. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if your family needs support, we’re committed to working with you to ensure your child is at school and thriving.
I strongly encourage every student to be an active member of our school community. We will provide a strong academic foundation and additional support through RTI, extracurricular activities like our Viking Leadership Council, and athletics to help students grow into well-rounded, confident individuals. Our “Commitment to Excellence” is not just a motto—it’s our promise to every student and family.
We look forward to a great school year ahead and are excited to either meet you for the first time or welcome you back! Please know that you can contact the middle school at any time with questions or concerns. You can also access your child’s grades, assignments, and school updates anytime through our new student information system, ALMA.
Here’s to a successful and rewarding school year!
