Vinton-Shellsburg Choir Student and Director Selected to Perform at the American Choral Directors Association Midwestern Conference

VSHS senior Samuel Glynn was selected to participate in the Tenor/Bass High School Honor Choir at the 2024 American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Midwestern Conference in Omaha, Nebraska from Feb. 7-10, 2024. Choir Director, Ms. Michala Martin, will also be representing VSCSD as a member of Vocal Artists of Iowa – a semi-professional choir which was selected to perform as part of the conference. Across the 10-state region, only 125 Tenor/Bass students and 15 choirs were selected in a competitive blind audition for the honor to participate and perform.

The American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) is a nationally recognized nonprofit music-education organization with a mission to inspire excellence and nurture lifelong involvement in choral music for everyone through education, performance, composition, and advocacy. ACDA Region Conferences will be held in six cities around the U.S. in 2024.

The 2024 ACDA Midwestern Conference will celebrate the power of both individual and collective voice. When choral singers are drawn together by the desire to sing and be with others, the unique vocal attributes, identity, and life experience of each individual voice combines to form a rich, sonic tapestry. Singing with others not only creates a cohesive sound that is stronger than when singing alone, but also amplifies individual voices in pursuit of positive social change.

“Performing at the Midwestern ACDA conference is an incredible honor and I’m so proud of Sam and his achievement.”, said Vinton-Shellsburg High School Choir Director, Michala Martin. “I’m also very excited that we get to represent VSCSD from multiple performing opportunities.”
